💍MARRIAGE TO A LOCAL BRAZILIAN 🇧🇷

Clear Step-by-Step guide for a Filipino who wants to legally marry to a Brazilian or join their same-sex partner in Brazil 🇧🇷

---

💍 OPTION 1: Get Married in Brazil

✅ Requirements:

1. Valid Passports (for both partners, if both are foreigners)

2. Apostilled Birth Certificates (original + official Portuguese translation by a sworn translator in Brazil, for Filipino/foreigner)

3. Apostilled Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) from PSA (Philippines)

4. Proof of Residence in Brazil (your partner’s address, rental contract, or declaration).

5. Visa or entry stamp showing you are legally in Brazil.

---

🏛️ Steps to Get Married:

1. Both must Prepare your Documents

2. Go to the local Civil Registry Office (Cartório de Registro Civil) where your Brazilian partner lives.

3. Submit all documents and request “casamento civil entre estrangeiro e brasileiro” (civil marriage between a foreigner and a Brazilian).

4. Wait around 20–30 days for publication of marriage banns (official announcement). At times this takes faster than expected.

5. Attend the marriage ceremony with atleast 2 witnesses — simple, civil, and legal!

Afterward, you’ll receive a Brazilian marriage certificate (“Certidão de Casamento”), valid internationally.

💚 OPTION 2: Apply for Residence as the Partner of a Brazilian (Living-in with your partner for 2 years minimum)

If you are already in a long-term relationship, you can apply for a “residência por união estável” (residence based on a stable union).

You’ll need:

✍🏻Proof of your relationship (photos, messages, joint accounts, etc.)

✍🏻Declaration of “união estável” signed by both partners

✍🏻Your passport and entry stamp

✍🏻Your partner’s Brazilian ID and proof of income/address

The application is done at the Polícia Federal, and once approved, you’ll get a temporary residence card, renewable or convertible to permanent after a few years.

🏳️‍🌈 Important Notes:

Brazil recognizes same-sex marriage and partnerships equally with opposite-sex ones.

After marriage or stable union, you can apply for permanent residence. After possessing of permanent residency for one year, you can apply for your citizenship as long as you have already your Portuguese Language Eligibility Certificate that is accredited by MEC.

You can also register your marriage at the Philippine Embassy in Brasília for documentation/legal purposes.
